On  November 22, the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) celebrated the remarkable contributions of Barbara Moon, a dedicated member of the UFV community since 1978. Moon’s enduring commitment to education and philanthropy in the sciences—particularly biology— was acknowledged as she was presented with UFV Ripple Makers Loyalty and Legacy paddles by members of the Advancement team.

A Legacy of Excellence in Biology

Barbara Moon’s journey at UFV has been nothing short of exemplary. Joining the institution in 1978, she dedicated 31 years to the Biology Department, leaving an indelible mark on the academic landscape. Her expertise and passion within the Sciences were instrumental in shaping the educational experiences of countless students.

Beyond the Classroom: A Philanthropic Spirit

Moon’s impact extended far beyond the confines of the classroom when her philanthropic journey began in 1995 with her first recorded gift. Over the years, she continued to demonstrate her commitment to education by establishing awards in 2007. Moon’s philanthropy focused on two crucial areas of study and interest; in her own words, “The endowment that I have given to the University of the Fraser Valley is a scholarship for Indigenous students entering the Teacher Education program, and the second is a scholarship for students pursuing Graduate Studies in either social justice or sustainability. It is my privilege and my pleasure to be doing this.”

To honour Barbara Moon’s unwavering dedication and philanthropy, members of the Advancement team orchestrated a heartfelt celebration, where Barbara was presented with UFV Ripple Makers Loyalty and Legacy paddles, to commemorate 28 years of devotion. The celebration was attended by colleagues and friends, including members of her team from Alexander College, who joined in the occasion. The video of the presentation can be viewed here.

Barbara Moon’s story is one of dedication, passion, and a profound commitment to the betterment of education. Her impact on the UFV community, especially within the Sciences, is immeasurable. As the legacy of her philanthropy continues, the Ripple Makers Loyalty and Legacy paddles serve as a tangible representation of her lasting impact on the institution and the countless lives she has touched throughout her remarkable journey.
