Supporting student success through Alumni awards

  • September 17, 2025

The numbers tell a powerful story: the UFV community continues to be a pillar of support for student success.

Over the 2024 to 2025 academic year, over 2,800 scholarships, bursaries, grants and awards were distributed to students, totaling over $4.8 million — assistance that was vital in helping to reduce financial barriers, allowing students to focus on their studies, personal growth and future goals.

The UFV Alumni Association (UFVAA) is one of many generous organizations working to make this financial assistance possible, the impact of which is best shared through the voices of students themselves:

“I am currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, which has been my passion for as long as I can remember. In addition to my studies, I am dedicated to raising awareness on important topics such as online safety and social issues like racism and homophobia. This involvement has not only strengthened my commitment to my field but also taught me the importance of leadership and empathy—qualities I hope to bring into my career. This award will help ease financial concerns, allowing me to focus on my studies, volunteering, and leadership efforts, and also serve as a validation of my hard work and dedication.”

– Aida (BSc CIS student), recipient of the summer 2025 UFVAA Bursary Endowment

“As a disabled student who has had to work through numerous obstacles and difficulties throughout my life, university has opened my eyes to a world full of potential for a life that isn’t just satisfying but feels driven by purpose and optimism for the future. Thanks to your generous financial contribution, I am able to continue honing my potential while actively playing a role of servitude to my community as a volunteer events/arts organizer.”

– Elijah (BA English student), recipient of the winter 2025 UFVAA 50 Years Forward Annual Bursary

“To me, this was a very big deal and helped me out a lot. The money that was donated to me helped reduce my financial stress and allowed me to focus more on my mental health, as I was able to work less and dedicate more time to my education. Additionally, I had more time to spend with my friends and family. I would also like to mention that these donations help support many families who are unable to afford basic necessities and contribute towards their education, which leads to a better future.”

– Aneet (BBA student), recipient of the fall 2024, UFVAA Bursary Endowment

UFV alumni and donors play an essential role in shaping brighter futures. By investing in students, donors help to enable them to achieve their goals, build confidence, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
